Leon Lequime

Leon Lequime was an early pioneer in Kelowna, British Columbia.
He was born in 1870 to Eli and Marie Louise (née Altabagoethe) Lequime. After his parents left the Okanagan Mission area Leon and his brother, Bernard Lequime took over the family business. In 1890, Bernard and Leon bought land form Auguste Gillard so they could have waterfront property for their sawmill. 1891 saw the sawmill's location change from its original site to the lakefront property. Leon later left the sawmill business but stayed with his brother to open up Lequime Bros. General Store. This store later became Lequime Bros. and Co. General Store. In 1892, Leon purchased the boat ''Penticton'' from Thomas Ellis and Thomas Shorts for five thousand dollars. 〔 The Kelowna Story An Okanagan History, Sharron J. Simpson, 2011, Harbour Publishing Company Limited, ISBN 978-1-55017-539-4 〕 Leon Avenue in Kelowna bears his name.
